Like A Wide-Eyed Baby!

This was me last night, like a wide eyed baby, I couldn't sleep.   After a day which included a 10 mile run (more on this later) and some construction work on our shop, in the freezing cold.
Freezing for the South - windy, cloudy, and wind chills in the 30's.  Don't laugh my Nothern and Western friends - remember we have humidity that makes the temp feel really cold.   It's running weather, but that's about it. Anyway, I was exhausted and headed to bed at 9:00pm.  Around 11:30, I woke up and couldn't sleep.  This is so frustrating.  It was around 2:30 when I finally went back to sleep.  Urgh!  So this morning I wake up feeling like I have a hangover, and I didn't have a drink.
(Me thinks, me will go for a short run to snap out of the tired feeling.)

Sat. morning we had another group run.  We had 8 runners in our group and 3 other runners, running a different pace.( The Unsung Runner was in the small group.  She is training for her 1st full marathon ) It's fun to run as a group because the miles go by so fast.  The plan was to run around 9:30-10:00 pace, but I forgot my Garmin.   I think we ended up running around 9:15?????  Sweet!  No problems with the hip, and so far today, it feels ok.  To get the group organized, I posted a message on facebook, twitter, and our running club website forum.  Sometimes no one can make it, other times we have a nice group.

This week's training:
Monday - Jog 2 miles, 10 min walk am, push-ups, yoga @ The Yoga Room, and walk 2 miles pm.
Tues - 3 miles - 1 mile w/u 9:38, 1 mile tempo @ 8:10 pace, and 1 mile c/d @ 9:38 pace
Wed. - walk 3 + miles with a friend
Thur. - jog 3 miles on dirt
Fri - 24 min core dvd and 30 min walk
Sat. - 10 miles around 9:15 pace, short weight workout, and 15 min stretch pm
Sun - today will be a 2 mile run and 10 min walk for sure and we will see if I get to any other training
So I will end with 20 miles of running. (normally, I would be around 35 miles at this point in training)

The Hip:
Last week I didn't feel the hip at all, and this week after adding the 1 mile tempo, on Wed., I could feel it again.  I felt it Tues. and Wed. and that was all for this week.  I am not having issues with easy running and I am happy about that.  I plan to do another short tempo this week.  If I continue to have issues after the tempos, I may be "running easy" to Boston.  You guys know this is not my first choice, but my main goal is to be able to run it.

Overall a good week!  Happy to still be running!

I think a goal of simply being able to run is great! You have to do whats best for your body. Happy Sunday!

I know that wide eyed look! Lucky for me I did not have it last night. Glad to see your mileage adding up and you still keeping up with a 'smart/healthy' approach to your training.

Nothing wrong with easy running it to Boston, you'll still get there and still get to run it!! Which it's about the experience more than racing it, I think. I have squirrel brain for the past week and am wide awake at 2:00. Makes for one LONG and nutty day. I don't even know what's causing it nor how to fix it. err. I remember the days when I lived in Huntsville and we'd get cold snaps - burrrrr! Happy Sunday!!

Funny picture! I have the same issues when I wake up in the middle of the night, for what ever reason I blame it on hormones I have the hardest time falling back to sleep. Good for you that you got up and ran anyway. Glad to hear the hip is not knocking you out of running completely. As for Boston I think you'll be so caught up in the high of being there that it will ease any disappointment you feel.

I do the same thing when I wake up an hour or two after falling asleep - can't go back to sleep for an hour or two - so frustrating! It's good that you are being cautious with your training. In spite of doing it a bit differently than originally planned or hoped for, you still might surprise yourself at Boston. Don't write off a good run there - sometimes feeling a bit more rested and a little "undertrained" results in a great performance. I think it will still happen for you!

Take it as easy as you need to. Glad you're out and the hip is not-so-much giving you problems. Great work!! Hope you got more rest last night!

Pretty neat that you organized a group run! And "Me, too!" on the sleep issues, unfortunately.

I'm glad the hip is holding up even if it's annoying sometimes. I'm happy your goals on in the right place and running it easy is your way. What's the point of running hard if you can't run at all eventually.

I think the goal of running it is what is important! I hope the hip pain gets better!

Ugh! I can't stay when I can't get my mind to settle and let me sleep!

Be careful with the hip. Running Boston under any goals will be a great experince!

Funny...I woke up at 2:50, laid there until 3:30, had enough of that and got up! Sooooo, I'm dragging now. Glad you got out to run. You're such an inspiration to so many! Keep a "short" watch on the hip and you'll do fine, I'm sure of it. Oh, and btw, LOVE the pic!!

Have you thought about new shoes? I have heard of hip pain going away with new shoes.

YAY! i finally figured out how to comment on your blog!!!! it has never worked before i dont think. I usually use firefox but i tried internet explorer and it worked!
Anyway, thanks so much for your 5 comments! Yes, we are still on for our running or walking tour in April. i think it would be fun if all of us bloggy Boston runners met up at the same bar afterwards or somehting.
i thought of you this morning, i ran 18 miles on the Boston Marathon course and i brought my camera with me so i could take a pic of heart break hill to show you and whoever else wants to see it. its really
not that bad. Do you know the story of why its called heart break hill? not because it will destroy your race or break you heart. you'll be fine. we'll do a post on it soon.
Thanks again! keep up the good work with training!

Wow, there is no way that you are forty something:) You look fantastic! Looking at some of your comments...you read some of the same blogs as me! I also have issues with my hip at times and it sucks. Some runs are better than others, I find that if I stretch and ice it seems to help:) Good job on your 10 miler today, mine is tomorrow!

I think it ironic that you ended the last post about getting plenty of sleep and then in this one you were awake all night. I hope you didn't jinx your self.

I went through an insomnia kick a couple of weeks ago. SO draining! Nice week! The greatest prize is in qualifying! It sure would suck not to be able to run the race at all so you're taking the right approach! Good luck!
