Practicing for a 10:30 am Boston Start

Today I ran 10 miles which will be my long run for the week.  I also lifted weights.  Good start to the week. For the next few weeks, I plan to run my long runs on Monday and start my runs @ 10:30 am.   Haven't really figured out what to do with the eating thing with a 10:30 Boston start.  I normally "fuel" my runs fairly well, and still end up hungry when I finish my runs at 10:00 or 11:00.  To be perfectly honest, I am worried about "fizzling out" because of running from 10:30-2:30.  I had my first "trial run" last week, just a short 5 mile run @ 10:30 and when I finished, I was "starving."  Yikes!  Today, was my second attempt and I added some extra calories.  Still didn't feel good about the start time.  I know I will adjust and I have plenty of time to figure the late start out, but I think I will add some additional runs each week that start @ 10:30 to be sure I adjust.  (thankful that I am self-employed and can manage this most of the time).  The data - avg pace 8:48 (today I stopped the Garmin during my stops)
Pics from my recent runs.
Hwy 90 - Biloxi, MS -Thurs - overnight trip for my birthday (the big 42 - yikes)
Fri tempo run - 1 mile w/u, 5 miles @ 8:23, 1 mile c/d.  A little slow, but I jumped from 3.5 mile tempo to a 5 mile tempo, so it's good.  Will work on getting the 5 mile tempo time down.  Happy to be back up to 5 mile tempos.
Sat. run - Gulf Shores, AL - run on the Ft. Morgan bike path. 4 miles - last mile I ran 7 X 12 seconds fast.
Sat. run @ Gulf Shores, AL
Mom's 80th celebration - Point Clear, AL The Grand Hotel
Mom, sister, brothers, sister-in-laws, hubby, and niece
Monday 10 miles @ 8:48 avg on hills.  It's warming up in the South.  64 degrees @ 10:30 am

In honor of my 42nd year, this week, I will run 42 miles.

Thanks for the encouraging words on my blog! I am lifting myself up out of my funk. You are so smart to do your long runs on Monday. At the end of Boston last year I was STARVING--the bar they handed out at the finish was like an elixir of the gods!

I ate my morning oatmeal and banana on the bus to the start line just so that I wasn't eating so early. Take an extra GU with you, they may have handed them out along the course but I don't remember that. I always wear a shirt with pockets so I can store a lot of stuff; one thing that works for me is Perpetuem by Hammer...but I have to carry it in a flask and stash it in my pocket. It's full of calories and helps give me that boost at the end when I need it.

Can you believe it's 6 weeks?? EEeeeeeks. I'm so glad you're running well and heading to Beantown!!!

Hi Ginny,
First of all happy birthday! You do not look like a woman who is 42...you were blessed with a youthful appearance:)

Thanks for posting those great pictures, I love getting to see where other people get to run:) I am so glad to have found another blogger who is going to Boston! Out of all of the bloggers out there, honestly, there is only a handful of you making the trip! What an accomplishment to even qualify for that race! I can't wait to follow your Boston journey and cheer you on:)

Happy Birthday! As for the eating, do you do OK eating while you run or not? I was reading somewhere that noon is one of the lowest blood sugar points of the day - bummer! Guess that is why we like to run early...

Happy Birthday, Ginny! You sound like you're gearing up for the big one! That's a good idea to do some long runs at that time if you're not used to it.
I love your pictures. They brought back memories of you running like crazy in the summer heat. It's so gorgeous there!
