With the extended break, I can tell you that I am about to POP with excitement. If you have been reading for very long, you know that marathon training it what gets me super excited. If you are new to my blog, you will soon realize, when I am in the height of marathon training, life is spectacular. Don't get me wrong, life is always great, but really I am at my happiest when I'm in serious marathon training mode. Most of my friends who train for marathons typically get "burnt out" as they reach the end of their training. I never get there, and I am thankful for that. So today, I am thankful for my passion for running and racing. Today, I am especially MOST thankful for my health. I am thankful that I am rarely sick. I tell you, several times on Friday, I felt so sad for people who deal with chronic pain or illness. I am thankful, I am blessed with good health.
This year I will be starting a new segment on my blog. It will be called
"what I'm doing right"
This is not a spot to brag about me. It's NOT that at all. (if you know me, you know bragging is not within me, it's not who I am. I state this here, because most of you don't "really" know me, and in writing, people can interpret things VERY differently) It's called "what I'm doing right" because if the segment was called "what I'm doing wrong", the list would be so long, it would truly overwhelm my readers. In addition, that would not be inspiring or motivating to anyone. So, from time to time, I will list a few things that I feel good about. It may be something new I'm doing, it may be something I'm always doing, it may be something that I have done in the past, and that I have started doing again. I am starting this in hopes of inspiring others to do simple things to improve your health, your mind, your body, your emotion, your finances, your relationships, etc. Anything that I think is a good thing for my life, may one day appear in this segment. It may be one thing that I'm doing right that day, or some days it may be several things. Some days there will be none. Does that mean I haven't done anything right? No, but this will be a random segment, when I think of things that may inspire someone to do something right in their world. Many times I read things on blogs, fb, etc. and I am inspired to join in, so I'm hoping others will find something good and inspiring about some of the posts.
So today's
"What I'm doing right"
is inspired by Laura over at Running with a Purpose
I recently found her blog. She is a MS girl and a runner, so I had to check her blog out. When I read her blog on Sat. It's just water...What's the big deal?
immediately, I knew I had to join her, (thanks Laura - we can totally do this!) She inspired me to get back on track with my water consumption. I do fairly well, most of the time, but winter is a little challenging. It's hard because I'm VERY cold-natured (except for running - it's weird, I know). The thought of drinking 64 ounces of water, when I'm freezing, is just not always totally appealing, even though I know I need to. I drink it at room temp. but it still "chills me to the bone."
The other part of her blog is about reducing soda consumption. I drink diet soda, and love it. I am not out of control, by any means. Some days I have none, some days I have two, but most days it's just one. I do crave a diet drink each day. My goal is to limit it to one per day, and maybe eventually reduce it from there. Baby steps! Have I mentioned I am a carb addict? I'm sure I have, somewhere along the way. I am totally buying into all of the recent reports that "diet" sugars keep us craving sugar. So I'm on a mission to reduce the addictive chemical as much as possible. I admire many of you who have eliminated all sodas from your diet. Maybe one day I will join you in the total elimination, but for now, I will be satisfied with moderation.
Today's - what I'm doing right is....
* I consumed 64 ounces of water
* I also floss at least one time a day, but most days 2 times - if you haven't heard, flossing is SO important for your teeth, but it's much more important than that, it increases your overall health. According to realage.com, just by flossing daily, you can add 6.4 years onto your life. Totally worth the time and effort.
...and those are 2 good things for today!
Please share with me, some of the things you are doing right today.

You make these things so easy and do-able. I can give them a try too. I'm not into soda but I need to drink more water AND floss...
hugs and thanks, ginny!
I am going to check out that blog, sounds well worth the read. I try to get 64 ounces too but it is hard. I found though that if I measure out the amount and put it on the counter in water bottles it's easier for me to get it done(or down?). Cheers Ginny!
Jennifer - I totally agree, I measure mine too so that I see it there as a constant reminder, and I know that it MUST be consumed by the end of the day. I also try to finish the water early evening so that I'm not up all night running to the potty.
Ginny, I can so relate to the water and being chilly. I drink it most of the time at room temp and hardly ever with ice. I am thinking of setting my watch to beep midday as a way to remind me to drink. The floss thing is amazing, that many years? wow. I use a waterpik and love that, until I shoot water up my nose and well, that's not a good thing. I like your post idea.
Good idea on your "segment" posting. I think sometimes we're so in tune with what we don't do right that it tends to consume us until we overdo the right and we feel right again. Overcompensating, I guess. Thankfully, I'm not a diet drinker. I probably have a soda 6 times a year and they are usually in the heat of the summer. I enjoy my water at room temp in the winter. And it is funny to find out that you are cold natured! I'd have never guessed. I look forward to more of your new segments.
Glad you're feeling better! I agree, I'm lost without training ... and being healthy when training is tops! I cut out pop about 10 years ago and really haven't missed. I drink one about once a month now. I made a huge difference with headaches. Keep feeling better! Good luck!
Great idea with the what I'm doing right!!
AWESOME post! Love the positive twist. Yikes...I'm awful about the flossing. yay you for the water consumption. I am doing right: remembering to be in the moment with my children and spending one on one time with them, tell them that I love them often and setting good examples of healthy living for them. Training smart by rolling, icing, stretching. Happy Monday!
You know what, if you drink tea that still counts as water - and won't chill you to the bone. I drink about 64 oz of water every day, but I drink two big travel mugs of tea every afternoon. You can even make it herbal tea if you are worried about the caffeine.
Diet soda, bad.
I agree that it's very hard to drink the water in the winter time. I'm the same way and get really cold.
64 oz. = pee-ville for me
Never thought about tracking oral hygiene but there's a big connection with heath/longevity and keeping your teeth clean! ... maybe I should start
wow! i never realized flossing had such an impact... i've ALWAYS been horrible at that.
I like the what i'm doing right thing, that's great! Every year i say I am going to floss more...and i do, but still not as much as i should! :-P
I kept waiting for a new post to pop up on my blogroll from you! I clicked on your name and somehow missed this one!
Love it! Great idea. I work at a Dentists' office. Yeah for flossing!
What I'm doing right today....I'm limiting my caffeine intake even though it KILLING me and I'm not entirely fun to be around, I'm taking my vitamins and making a committed decision to REMEMBER to take them every day.
Fun post Ginny! Looking forward to reading more:)
